After experiencing only marginal success in previous months, a discount club is now flourishing on the ISU campus this semester.
Student Savings Club is a nationwide discount service that gives ISU students, staff and faculty the chance to receive discounts on items at various Terre Haute businesses. It is the nation's largest Savings and Discount program for college students.

The program was brought to ISU last year, in hopes that students would jump at the chance to receive discounts at assorted businesses across Terre Haute. Unfortunately, the program wasn't warmly received. It seemed that the problem was lack of promotion.

Still feeling the program could succeed, the Student Government Association made a stronger attempt to get the word out. On Jan. 19, they posted a short message on the ISU portal site. Not knowing how much of an impact the short post would have, SGA senator Hillary Davidson said she was impressed with the instant results the program received.

"Within the first day we posted the changes on the portal, we had 80 new students sign up," Davidson said. "So things are definitely working out much better now."

In addition to discounts, people who sign up are entered in a monthly prize drawing. The prize up for grabs this month is an iPod Nano.
The discount club offers reduced prices at various locations around Terre Haute. Locations include Ballyhoo, Jade Garden, Imperial Lanes, Poplar Flower Shop, the Drury Inn and Serenity Spa & Salon, as well as many other local businesses. Davidson said she thinks that being part of the Student Savings Club will help the members of the ISU community get more in touch with the city.

"I think having this program on our campus really works out great for everybody," Davidson said. "It's a great way for everyone to experience the culture of Terre Haute at a discounted price."

To sign up, go to www.StudentSavingsClub.com. After signing up, a list will display all the businesses where one can make use of the discount offer. For additional information, contact SGA at 237-3860.
