Wichita State students can now save money at local businesses by showing their Shocker Card through the newly instated Students Savings Club. The Student Savings Club is from the same company that offered last year’s Shocker Discount Card. SGA president Thanh Huynh advocated bringing the program to WSU. Huynh said the idea of the Shockers Savings Club is similar to the Shocker Discount card, but instead of a separate card, students only need to have their student ID. The program is of no cost to SGA. “There are absolutely no negatives to this,” Huynh said. “It’s just students getting cheaper rates on things, which is a great opportunity.” SGA will be promoting the program around campus and is working at increasing local business participation, Felipe’s Mexican restaurant is one of 20 businesses that participated in this program last year and plans on continuing involvement this year. Miguel Lujano, Felipe’s manager, said Felipe’s already has a large student clientele, but the students last year rarely had their Shocker Discount card with them. The new Shockers Savings Club will be more helpful to students because they will be able to take advantage of the discounts more easily, he said.
